About WfW
WASSER FÜR WASSER (WfW) is a Swiss non-profit organization based on the simple realization that access to and availability of safe drinking water is vital for all people, but not guaranteed equally for all. This is why since its foundation in 2012, WfW has been supporting projects focussed on water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) as well as vocational training in the water sector in urban areas in Zambia and Mozambique.

Project Summary
Since more than seven years, WfW has been active in Lusaka strengthening the drinking water supply in structurally neglected urban settlements. Gondwe is a low-income district in the south of Lusaka and, due to a lack of financial resources, has so far not been connected to the municipal water supply network. The average income of CHF 60 per month is at the lower end of the national average and less than 8% of the approximately 8,600 inhabitants have safe access to drinking water. Most people still obtain their water from unsafe boreholes, exposing them to considerable health risks. In addition, securing the daily water supply takes a considerable amount of time, which significantly limits the overall opportunities for development, especially for women. The project provides sustainable water access to all residents through a comprehensive initial intervention. In cooperation with the municipal water supplier Lusaka Water Supply and Sanitation Company (LWSC) as well as other local stakeholders, the Gondwe district will be connected to the securely managed municipal water supply by a 10.5 km long pipeline network and the construction of household connections along with communal water points.
With an additional USD 10,000 the Toray Membrane Europe AG is supporting the final construction phase for registered household connections for around 100 residents. The costs for one household connection are USD 100. We would like to thank you for the valuable support of this project.
